EasterSeals WorkFirst and Westside Regional Center are co-hosting Griffin-Hammis Associates’ 40 hour training on Community Employment Services, with an emphasis on Customized Employment

This is a nationally recognized certificate course through the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE)

Topics include: Customized Employment, Discovery, Job Development and Negotiation, Work Incentives, Systematic Instruction, Benefits, and Job Site Supports

HCBS Funding Guidelines FY 2018-19- Webinars & Technical Assistance

Information on the next round of DDS HCBS Compliance Funding for FY 18-19 is out!

Vendor proposals are due to Regional Centers by Friday, December 14th, 2018 (see list of eligible settings below*)

DDS will hold two, one-hour webinars to review the funding application process and answer questions. The webinars will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Monday, November 26, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  To register, click on either of the dates below:

WRC is hosting two informational and technical assistance sessions for providers interested in applying for FY 18-19 HCBS Transition Grant Funding on:

PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS TO RECEIVE CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE.

The trainings will cover:
• Self-determination values and principles and the roles of the Independent Facilitator
• Helping the participant lead their person-centered plan
• Identifying services and supports in the community
• Assisting the participant in developing their individual budget
• Advocating for the participant at their IPP
• Accessing generic resources, including public benefits, education, and natural supports
• Managing workers, service providers, and supports

There will be a pre- and post-test about what you learned.

WRC Self Determination Local Advisory Committee Meeting Date Changed in October & December

Self Determination Local Advisory Committee

This meeting that is typically held on the second Tuesday of each month at Westside Regional Center from 6:00-8:00 pm.

*October 2018 meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 16th from 6-8pm at WRC*

*December 2018 meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 4th from 6-8pm at WRC*

The committee shall consist of the regional center client’s rights advocate, consumers, family members, and other advocates and community leaders. A majority of the committee shall be consumers and their family members. The committee shall reflect the multicultural diversity and geographic profile of the catchment area. The committee shall review the development and ongoing progress of the Self Determination Program, including whether the program advances the principles of self determination and is operating consistent with the requirements of this section, and may make ongoing recommendations for improvement to the regional center and the department. All are welcome to attend these meetings.

Social Security & Work Incentives Information Session-Wednesday September 26th 10am-12pm at WRC

Joy Tsuhako, Area Work Incentives Coordinator (AWIC) from the Social Security Administration (SSA) will present information on the disability benefits available at SSA: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Joy will also cover how work affects these cash benefits, as well as the medical benefits, Medicare and Medi-Cal.
